OpenID: Google e JanRain annunciano il supporto alla OpenID User Interface Extension

Google e JanRain annunciano il supporto alla OpenID User Interface Extension. La prima migliora le sue OpenID APIs, sia introducendo un rinnovato popup che consente agli utenti Internet di identificarsi/autenticarsi presso siti web Relying Parties (quei siti web che accettano identità digitali OpenID) utilizzando il loro account Google, sia estendendo il supporto allo OpenID Attribute Exchange per trasferire alle stesse Relying Parties informazioni di profilo utente quali nome, cognome, paese e lingua. La seconda invece adotta immediatamente i miglioramenti apportati da Google alle sue OpenID APIs per il proprio servizio di identificazione/autenticazione OpenID denominato RPX.
L’OpenID Attribute Exchange permette quindi di trasferire alcune informazioni statiche come le suddette tra l’OpenID Service Provider (in questo caso Google) e le Relying Parties, mentre altre informazioni come le Contacts Lists, i Web Albums, oppure i Calendari, sono altresì trasferibili via OAuth, ovvero attraverso le Google Data APIs che supportano questo protocollo.
L’innalzamento qualitativo dell’esperienza utente è una delle priorità chiave della OpenID Foundation, e l’OpenID blog parla di un costante avvicinamento dell’esperienza OpenID a quella resa oggi possibile dal Facebook Connect.
E per quanto riguarda Google ed il suo rapporto con l’OpenID, l’azienda dice che "As a strong supporter of open standards such as OpenID, Google’s top priority in this area has been to join the OpenID community in its efforts to increase the adoption of the protocol by both Relying Party websites and end users… Google strongly believes that the data our users trust us with belongs to them and should always be available for them to use. By providing users with more secure means to share their data, they can benefit from a much more streamlined, personalized and socially relevant experience when they log in to trusted websites. At the same time, Relying Parties can significantly simplify their account creation and sign-in flows, resulting in happier users and higher successful registration rates".
