Venture Capital: Seedcamp, un evento a supporto dei giovani imprenditori europei

Anche l’Europa ha un proprio progetto di venture capital creato sullo stile di Y Combinator, la venture firm californiana che gestisce un fondo di seed capital e di investimenti early stage dedicato alle startups. Il progetto si chiama Seedcamp, ed è stato creato da Saul Klein (Index Ventures) e Reshma Sohoni (3i): esso vede anche il coinvolgimento nel proprio Board di alcuni imprenditori seriali, e diverse venture capital fanno parte del suo Selection Panel.
Seedcamp consiste in un evento, della durata di una settimana, che si terrà a Londra nel Settembre 2007, e che sarà rivolto esclusivamente a giovani imprenditori provenienti dalla zona geografica identificata dall’acronimo EMEA (Europa, Medio Oriente, Africa). Dopo una fase di selezione iniziale, 20 dei teams/aziende che avranno fatto domanda di partecipare al Seedcamp, e che avranno proposto i propri progetti imprenditoriali ai suoi esperti, verranno selezionati per partecipare all’evento londinese. Durante questo evento, i teams/aziende selezionati potranno beneficiare dell’esperienza di una serie di esperti di varia natura (imprenditori seriali, aziende, venture capitalists, specialisti di marketing, ecc.) e costruire un importante network di relazioni. Al termine dell’evento, 5 teams/aziende saranno scelti per essere finanziati con un ammontare di 50.000 Euro in cambio di una partecipazione del 10% nella loro iniziativa imprenditoriale.
Tutti coloro che volessero partecipare a questo evento e proporre i propri progetti possono farne richiesta attraverso l’Application Form sul sito web del Seedcamp entro il 5 Agosto 2007: esistono ovviamente dei criteri applicativi riguardanti la conformità delle proposte che occorre rispettare.
L’obbiettivo principale del progetto Seedcamp è quello di creare una sorta di catalizzatore per la prossima generazione di imprenditori europei: i suoi creatori ed organizzatori stanno pianificando un evento da tenersi su base annuale.

We want you to convince us that by spending a week with Europe’s top entrepreneurs, investors, advisors and each other you will be able to prove that with a bit of seed investment, the right connections and a bit of support your company will change the world” recita il sito web di Seedcamp. Ed ancora: “Europe has all the right ingredients – environment, talent, capital and role models - to build world beating technology businesses“.
Sempre a proposito del Seedcamp, vorrei citare alcune frasi scritte da Saul Klein all’interno di due suoi articoli intitolati “Inspired to apply to Seedcamp?” e “Y Europe can seed growth of its new stars“, comparsi rispettivamente sul blog del Seedcamp e sul suo blog personale: con la “storia” personale che ho alle spalle non posso che condividerle in pieno. Eccole:
- “Originality can be over emphasized - we love to prize innovation, but sometimes the best ideas come from around the block“;
- “Maybe its better to think about inspiration rather than innovation“;
- “We’re inspired to try help the next generation of young European technology entreprenuers create world-beating businesses“;
- “We’re inspired because we believe that Europe finally has the right combination of talent, capital and role models to build killer companies“;
- “We have no more excuses in Europe not to create big, world-beating businesses - come on, inspire us and show us what you can do“;
- “We should stop worrying about why we’re not Silicon Valley and start thinking about what we can do with the great advantages we have. So this is really a call to arms: for first-time European entrepreneurs to let us know what they need to improve their chances of global success and for serial entrepreneurs and investors to figure out how we can better support the best ideas and talent“.
Ah, dimenticavo, come al solito l’Italia in tutto questo c’entrerà davvero poco.
